Understanding Posts in Wordpress

Wordpress was originally a blog platform and it still has very strong blog features, so creating a "post" is something you often do to add content in Wordpress.  A "post" is just a different type of page that is setup to appear in lists and directories.

Where do I find Connections Posts?

Start by going to the wordpress dashboard

Click on Posts on the right hand side

This will show you a list of Posts.

Set the Category Filter to "Connections" and press "filter" and you will see a list of posts

Click on these to get the general feel for how the Connections archive is setup

Create a new Connections Post

Go back to the left hand side of the dashboard - and under "Posts" click "New"

Give it a title and then click on "Use the Divvy Builder"

Now you will see 3 options - select "Clone Existing Page"

Now click "Posts" at the left, and select any recent Connections Post

Now select "Build on the Front End"

Don't worry if the image doesn't show - you can edit the text and the link.  The link would be the same link we have used before where the pdfs are uploaded.  If you need help using the visual editor there is another section on that.  Ask Stephanie to provide a short list of contents

Once you have saved and closed this page, you will need a cover image.  This must be sized 784 x 483 pixels. You can edit the size in WordPress if needed. Ask Stephanie to provide this.

You need to get to the main page for the post where you edit settings, so close out the visual editor, and if necessary use the "Edit Post" button in the top line

Now in the right hand side you need to do 3 more things

Click on the button to publish

AND - set the category of the post to "Connections" (deselect Uncategorized)

Finally at the bottom left - load up the featured image. It should then appear both on the connections home page and also when you open the post.
